Questions

How do I get started?

Open ScreenDream once. Its icon appears in the menu bar, next to the clock. Click it and choose Settings to pick a screensaver, or Start Screensaver to see it right away.

From then on, ScreenDream starts on its own after the idle time you choose in General. Turn on Launch at Login so it’s always ready.

Why isn’t ScreenDream in System Settings › Screen Saver?

The screen saver system built into macOS can’t run apps like ScreenDream, so ScreenDream runs on its own from the menu bar. You choose screensavers and start times in ScreenDream’s Settings instead.

The built-in screen saver or a black screen shows up instead

macOS’s own screen saver and display sleep run on separate timers. If either one comes first, it takes over before ScreenDream starts. In System Settings › Lock Screen:

  • Set Start Screen Saver when inactive to Never.
  • Set Turn display off to a time longer than ScreenDream’s Start After.

ScreenDream’s General settings have a Lock Screen Settings… button that takes you straight there.

How do I start it with a hot corner?

In ScreenDream’s General settings, pick a corner under Hot Corner. Moving the pointer into that corner starts the screensaver. macOS’s own hot corners can’t start ScreenDream, so use this setting instead.

Why does Puzzle ask for Screen Recording permission?

Only the Current Display picture option needs it, so Puzzle and Mower can turn what’s on your screen into the picture. The capture is blurred, kept in memory only, and never saved or sent anywhere. Without the permission, they use your wallpaper instead. To change it, go to System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording.

macOS asks you to re-confirm Screen Recording for every app about once a month. That’s normal.

Does Require Password lock my Mac?

Require Password asks for Touch ID or your login password before ScreenDream’s screensaver goes away, which keeps a passer-by from walking up to your desk. It isn’t a replacement for the macOS lock screen. When you need your Mac truly locked, press Control-Command-Q.

Does it work with more than one display?

Yes. Every connected display runs its own copy of the screensaver at the same time.

How do I get a refund?

Apple handles all App Store purchases and refunds. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.

How do I install it on another Mac?

Sign in to the Mac App Store with the same Apple Account, open your purchases, and download ScreenDream again at no charge.

How do I remove it?

Choose Quit ScreenDream from its menu bar icon, then drag ScreenDream from Applications to the Trash.
